Yi Ting Liong: “My journey into the circus arts truly took shape over the past two years as I embarked on a consistent practice with various aerial elements. With a background in dance, I found myself drawn to the world of aerial arts as a way of dancing whilst defying gravity. Yoga soon after became integral to my practice, serving as the cornerstone for building strength and active flexibility. From the very beginning, I fell in love, eagerly awaiting each practice because they empowered me in ways I had never experienced before. Whether I was flying in the air or grounded on the yoga mat, I found my true self through these art forms

Today, aerial, yoga, and contortion have become more than just hobbies, they are a big part of my life. These practices have sharpened my focus and enriched my appreciation for the journey of growth and self-discovery. I also learned a lot about my body, especially being hyper-mobile, and how to listen to myself and my body, ensuring safety while embracing challenges.

Being hyper-mobile, I encountered numerous challenges in my own practice. It’s a journey I’m still on, continually learning how to strengthen my body effectively, ensuring safety, and preventing injuries. This ongoing process has deeply influenced the way I approach teaching and emphasises the importance of safe and sustainable practices for my students. One of my proudest moments at LDA to date was performing at the London Dance Academy Night Market. It was a magical evening surrounded by the supportive LDA family. That moment for me was when I realised I wanted to go from student to performer, exploring the blend of floor work, dance styles and aerial skills into art.”
